- Aginode is a global leader in the design and manufacture of cable systems, services and remains committed to leading and building a safer, sustainable, renewable, low-carbon and connected electrified future.
- The new generation of green and low-carbon data center will include a well-designed cabling system to enable low-energy and sustainable operations.
The need for greener Data Centres
Data centres play a key role in driving the new wave of digital transformation such as 5G, AI, industrial internet, cloud computing and new energy. They are responsible for transforming core data into high-value data assets and are often regarded as the "central brain" of new infrastructure and the "key foundation" of digital economy development. According to Global Market Insight research, the global hyperscale data centre market revenue will exceed USD 60 billion by 2027 (around RMB 380 billion)*.
However, the growing importance of data centres means their power consumption is increasing year by year, with global data centre power consumption now accounting for 8% of total power consumption**. As demand for data increases, so too will power consumption. In China, the energy consumption of data centres is attracting more attention as the sector seeks to achieve carbon neutrality commitments. Recently, The National Development and Reform Commission and four other central government departments jointly issued a plan to promote greener data centres, with the goal of cutting the average power usage effectiveness (PUE)-value of newly built large and super large data centres nationwide down to 1.3.
So that leaves the question of how the sector can reduce energy consumption in data centres? This is certainly a major test, which is why Aginode has partnered with Centrin Data to build green and low-carbon data centres for 4 years. This partnership has become a model for the industry.
"Aginode is a global leader in the services, design and manufacture of cable systems, and we’re committed to building a safer, sustainable, renewable, low-carbon and connected electrified future. We have shared values of social responsibility with Centrin Data, which makes this an exciting partnership," said Aginode APAC General Manager Ben JIANG. "Data centres can play a meaningful role in achieving China's carbon neutrality goals while serving as a new engine for economic growth, which is why we’re helping Centrin shift to a greener, lower-energy, and more sustainable business model."
Through the 4-year partnership Aginode has provided Centrin's domestic data centre base with comprehensive cabling solutions, including Cat 6A copper cabling systems and pre-terminated fibre cabling systems. During the project’s implementation, Aginode provided systematic value-added services on making smart choices on the right cabling systems, helping Centrin optimise the construction cost of the data centre and anticipate future upgrades, operations, and maintenance needs. With high stability, flexibility and easy-to-manage, the solution accommodates Centrin Group's modular design for data centres and helps achieve faster delivery while lowering carbon emissions.
Jie HU, Assistant President of Centrin Data, said, “As the pioneer of the colocation data centres and as the hyper-scale data centre service provider in China, Centrin Data adheres to the development of green, low-carbon and eco-responsible data centres. Aginode's profound international brand, diversified experience and expertise, coupled with high quality services, made them the perfect partner for us. We hope that by joining forces, we can build a truly green and integrated data centre and maximise low-carbon operation.”
With the help of Aginode, Centrin Data was successively evaluated as an international new industrialisation demonstration base and demonstration project (data centre features) and a national green data centre in 2019 and 2020. Its Kunshan No. 1 Data Centre was also named "Carbon Neutral Data Centre Innovator" at this year's 2021 Data Centre High Quality Development Conference. The centre achieves carbon neutrality by adopting energy-saving technology application, clean energy procurement, low-carbon management system construction and management strategy implementation, and soil carbon sequestration.
Data centre is a representative microcosm of the various industries actively promoting the "dual carbon" goal. The year 2022 is going to be a critical year for new infrastructure and a breakthrough opportunity for data centres. Aginode and Centrin Data, as the leading enterprises in the industry, will continue to uphold the concept of green development, promote the construction of new data centres with high quality and low carbon as the core, explore the road of sustainable development of data centres, light up the digital future, and create a new green and low-carbon intelligent industry.
