Nexans optimises frame pallets for its fibre cable drums
Mar 22, 2022As part of Nexans commitment towards carbon neutrality, our Opticable fibre factory has introduced new wooden pallets for its cable drums. Compared to the previous pallet, the new optimised design contributes to:
- 21% carbon footprint reduction per pallet
- 7000 kg less CO2 emissions annually
- Lighter transport
- approximately 76 trees saved each year
The importance of packaging
Nexans Opticable, one of Nexans many production facilities, is located in the Belgian municipality of Frameries, close to the border with France. After fibre cables are produced each needs to be properly packaged before it can be transported out of the factory, stored at a distributor and finally installed on site.
Along its journey from factory to warehouse to end destination packaging serves multiple purposes:
- offers protection from damage by external factors
- guarantees the cables performance
- enables safe handling, transport and storage
